  Gendarmes d'ordnance 1806-1807

  In order to rally around him the young émigrés and to open to them a career in the French military, Napoléon in 1806 created the Gendarmes d'Ordonnance. This unit was placed in the Guard and assigned the mission of providing a Guard of Honor and an escort service for the emperor.
