It was only in 1791 that the Hussar regiments took numbers in place of the names.The uniform remained as under the monarchy: pelisse and dolman (Hussar jacket) with braiding, Hungarian pantaloons and a "mirliton" a tall shako with long, pointed, coloured bag. From 1792 onwards, numerous corps of Hussars were raised in addition to the existing six regiments: Hussars of Liberty, the Fabrefonds, etc
